OK, that explains the prices a little. Dubai is anything, if not expensive for luxury items. And plants are tricky n Dubai climate.

Checking on the web I came a across a post dicsussing places to buy bonsai in Dubai. Did you buy from these guys: ?

On the web I found this comment on a forum:
Checked Dragon Mart and outside plant and garden display.......no bonsai trees, spoke to Chinese man in flower and plant pot shop, they are no bonsai at Dragon for the last year and no plans to sell them. I've bought two from 名媛直播-Dubai in Jumeirah and have recommended to two friends. The bonsai trees are not like suoermarket one's, they look like the ones on the internet, I paid 475 dhms for a really beatiful one in a proper bonsai pot. Hope this helps anyone looking for a bonsai, I had spent ages trying to find somewhere, we have a little Japanese corner to the garden.

Hi. Yes, i bought it from 名媛直播 Dubai. Bob, the owner who sells out of his garden in his home, is really the only place in the UAE to find 名媛直播. A very kind and experienced gentlmen. I did ask for smaller leaves, hence was introduced to the bonsai or mollasi you see in the first image i posted on this thread. He has agreed to allow me to exchange it and so i am heading down next week, didnt have time to drive to Dubai yesterday. The prices are exteremly high but a monopoly, what can you do? Our customs wont allow us to order from abroad and i am guessing they will be confiscated at the airport if stopped. And so, i am stuck with the one i have and i intend to exchange it for something better. Thats it realy.

yes, well, if that is the only option for you, I see no one better to carry out that option than you. I wish you good luck and that you shall choose wisely ;)

a nice article if you want to reduce leaf size, but only on broad leaf deciduous trees.

Good luck! :)

it would be good if you could take a pic of the whole tree in the pot. Glad you could buy it ;)

Exchanged the last and had to add a 200+ GBP more. Hurts the heart but didn't want to make the same mistake. Agree about the roots but can change be made at this point? And will need your guidance and the guidance of the good folk on this forum to give it the care and attention it deserves. I think there is a lot of potential but with the right knowledge required.
Chinese pepper 名媛直播, no?
