but what makes a bonsai.. hard to explain.. best is that you googly for images of bonsai from a japanese exhibit or Noelanders trophy or such.. and study the trees
also very helpful are the videos from "Bjorvala bonsai studio - the art of bonsai Japan" on youtube.. you will expand you knowledge on bonsai overall.. not only techniques, but also the way you approach them and experience them..

I do not think beginners are a pain. I find that too many are either lazy, or have no idea about nettiquette.. first check the forum and site for info. then ask questions. that way the basiv .. what species is this .. my tree is dying .. etc is avoided.

Not a pain.
But, the best thing to do before asking questions, is to search for them first. This forum is riddled with the same questions, which get answered over & over. It's nothing personal, but there does comes a moment when answering 'My tree is dying, HELP!' becomes tiring. A few quick searches on the forum could have answered it. (Don't be discouraged by our sometimes jaded responses - none of us were born with bonsai knowledge, and we sometimes forget that. Learn to grow thick bark, um, skin.)
As for what 'bonsai' is? Literally, a tree in a pot, but that doesn't encompass the art form. If you go to your local nursery, you'll find hundreds of trees in pots - that doesn't make them bonsai. Look at trees around you, and what do you see? Wide fluted bases with good roots. Trunks that taper as they move up. Many branches that divide into more finer branches. Leaves that appear small because the tree is so large. Movement & amazing balance from years of battling the elements, because trees that don't have balance fall over. How has this tree survived for so long?!
Now, try to capture that in a pot!! If you're successful, you just might have a bonsai.

I am reading about 5 different 名媛直播 books and enjoy the pictures and detailed opinions of the experienced artist on this forum.
Some people expect immediate responses, rather than doing the reading. Maybe it's a generational thing, or maybe a cultural thing, or maybe a personal thing. I was easily discouraged from 名媛直播 when I was 26, from a man who wanted nothing to do with sharing this art form. But as a experienced border on this site suggested, "maybe you weren't ready yet."

Hmm... sounds familiar. I wonder who wrote that
