i get that, but not everyone has thick bark.. and if the admin has a low tolerance level, things can go wrong quite fast.. even if the people giving the comment has good intentions and the person getting the comment has thick skin and can accept the critique..
i'm not one to question things.. but when reading trough recent posts, i did see some potential in some trees.. but sadly i see the people behind them either stay away after a while, or are banned for unclear reasons..
the level of expertise will stay rather low and more experienced people will stay away for those reasons..
it can be done in a nice way also.. if you see there's a board where people like Hans Van Meer, Yannick Kiggen, Walter Pall and many other known names participate in the helping and judging of people's trees and work..

Do they get as many junipers that died weeks ago, 'ginseng' ficuses, sticks in pots with a fisherman next to it, and people that buy, repot and hack their plant to pieces in one day, claiming they made a 'wonderful tree' ?
Again, it is not the newbies that are a pain. There are several 'noobs' here that stay and learn. It's the people that don't know what a bonsai looks like, don't do any research, that ask the same questions, expect instant gratification, but are not willing to invest the required time for research, practice and care, and that never come back - not because of the answers they get, but because they are not that interested after all in something that appears to be not as easy as they thought it would be.

it's a circle..
posts about "what tree is this", "help!?" and "my tree is dying" lowers the general level of the forums..
because the general level of the forums is so low, it attracts more people with posts about "what tree is this", "help!?" and "my tree is dying" ..
result.. experienced people stay away except for a handful of people who have some knowhow and enjoy helping people.. for now..
if somehow the "noobs" (hate that word but it seems to be the general term.. ) were to stay away and this forum would have more bonsai on it, instead of dead houseplants and juvenile garden centre crap.. things would be better..

Interesting how your posts seem to be really inconsistent in the "why". You roiginally claimed the semi-pro's stayed away because the lesser-but-still-experienced-hobbiests were chasing them off.
Are you just arguing for aguments sake? Or what is your motive for moving around in circles? Yours last posts just repeats what I said before, as a counter to your post.

"noobs" stay away..
lesser-but-still-experienced won't feel the need anymore to act like the do know it all because now they are the "noobs"
the semi-pro's come in to help feed the hunger for knowledge of the new noob class..
today:
noob asks "help my juniper i kept indoors is dying"
lesser-but-still-experienced is the only one present to provide a possible answer
lesser-but-still-experienced thinks his answer is right and arguments start
- semi-pro read it, laughs, and stays away.
- semi pro reads it, reacts, and is told off by a lesser-but-still-experienced who doen't know who the semi pro is.. semi pro stays away or gets ban for "starting trouble" because the admin or mods seem to prefer the active lesser-but-still-experienced....
