New To 名媛直播 and Needing Help With First Tree! was created by winsto7

Hi everyone! I am new to bonsai and got my first Juniper tree today. I've been researching a lot and know it needs a lot of pruning and shaping. Any suggestions on where to begin?
I've read that bonsais generally live outdoors, however with the wildlife in my area I don't trust keeping it outside for too long. Is it okay to put it outside during the day and bring it inside at night?
Also, does anyone have specific watering instructions? I know it needs a decent amount of water and that the soil should remain relatively dry, but ground cover moss is covering the soil and I can't tell. Suggestions?
Thanks in advance everyone. I'm excited to learn more about bonsai and I know I've come to the right place.

If you can't leave this plant outside then it will not last long. It is entirely the wrong thing to be continually moving it in and out. If you cannot see the surface of the soil then remove the moss, Junipers love water, they do not want to be dry, Depending on where you are you will be watering at the moment in summer every day, What wildlife are you referring to? Can't you put it on a table off the ground?

I live next to a big forest with a lot of wildlife. My junipers is outdoors always and I have never seen any damage caused by them whatsoever except for some bird poo on them. I am fairly sure there are no wildlife that eats junipers except for moose. If you have a lot of moose visiting your garden you may need to put the tree in a fenced area. Indoors is not an option, the tree will die.

Sounds good! I'll move it outside. In the winter, should I move it inside, or will it be able to survive in the cold and snow?

Do not take it inside!! There is no need Junipers are hardy. Just make sure in winter that the tree does not get very dry.

Awesome. Thanks all! I'll take it outside. Any ideas on shaping? I know I need to clear some of the shoots near the base of the trunk, just so I can't see the dirt, but I'm not sure what to do with the top.

I think my last post already answered that question:
Indoors is not an option, the tree will die.

This is a very young juniper. Your focus for now should be growth, not styling. I would really concidering a much bigger pot or plant in ground for a few years, just to mature and thicken up.
But as always, you are the artist and you setup the future design and the path to get there.
