Posted 7 years 8 months ago #32726As an afterthought: have you checked the foliage? Is it grafted on? Then you might run into trouble that the original plant has much larger leaves.

Posted 7 years 8 months ago #32738Looks like the original size leave, the branches are looking like not grafted, took it into photoshop and blowed it up. It stays as structure shows in a green house, that would be most likely the best place. Defoliation would bring more branches as also pinching the tips.

Posted 7 years 8 months ago #32742Wow znickles that is much nicer than the trees in your other post. If the price is right go for it. My concern as a fellow beginners is asking myself the question "will I mind if it dies?" I am not saying you will kill it. I am just saying it is a possibility. So again if you consider all that and you are ok with the price get it.Znickles wrote: Opinions of this tree... is it worth purchasing ?? Needs work but do you think it?

I have an indoor climate set up with humidity and lights. I know my other material is quite inferior but in he area I live, this is there isn't even good Nursery stock.
This Ficus is listed at 455.00 US dollars. It's got a 25 percent off tag. I think I could talk them down a bit more to be honest. I just really want some good material. The problem is, I would struggle with shaping and pruning this specimen but I know I could get the job done with a little work.

Perhaps because I am in a tropical country (lots of ficuses around), a ficus like that will cost around 75U$ at a local nursery. So, for my standards yours is expensive.

I'm from a Ohio. I have very little outdoor space living in a small apartment. I don't have the ability to develop a tree the the ground to get a small treee into bonsai material. I have a shimpaku but it's already in a bonsai pot and I know it's not gonna grow well. I need an already developed tree , for training.coltranem wrote: Znickles you don't mention where you are from. Does your greenhouse sell regular ficus trees or juniper? These could used as starter material. They won't be bonsai but you can make them bonsai in time and you'll be training yourself in less expensive material.
