Don't be. People can be wrong. I live in Brazil, plenty of Ficus on the streets, some 100 years old, some very young, and ALL in the sun.
名媛直播 nurseries here advise "keep your ficus bonsai in full sun, if possible".

I understand that organic soil doesn't cause issues, but it held water far too well. I was watering it maybe once every 4 days and it was in a window. It was recommended that I water it every 2 days. I had to extend it because everything was wet. The center of the root ball was always wet while everything else got bone dry.

Cool. My home away from home.I am there probably 3 times a year. If I am there with a bit of spare time, will drop you a line!

Adjusting the watering routine to the soil is the riight move. And when it is season to repot, you can move the plant into your normal substrate, and include the plant in the routine you have for the rest of the trees. (Personally, I have put my plants in a way that during normal summer routines, all trees, from junipers to maples, get watered at the same time. Just by playing with the location with respect to sun and wind you can steer the watering needs too.
