If it wasn't humidity that cause them to drop it could have been environmental shock. This would happen if the plant was out in the Fall/Winter time then brought into the house for protection. The tree goes from temps ranging from 40°F to 65°F to a constant lets say 70°F.
If you haven't fertilized in 3-4 weeks go ahead and give it some liquid fertilizer (something balanced like 20-20-20).
Also watch out for aphids.
If any one else has a better idea please comment.

Less than a month later [...] the leaves began to shrivel up, but stayed green. They began to fall off with a few growing back here and there. Here I am now and it has no leaves at all.
it only seems to be getting worse if not staying the same.
The plant has been in trouble since september or earlier, it has no leaves and it is even getting worse.
I'm going to say it is quite dead.

Its funny but after I moved my microcarpas on the window facing direct sunlight they grow like crazy and new leaves shoot all over. I dont see any burns so far but its still spring sun. Will see how they handle the stronger summer sun.

The sunburn comes when plants are kept indoors and then moved into full sun. Just like you and me if you go sunbathing 10hrs a day after being indoors for months.
Ficus are trees that grow out to the top of the canopy. They LOVE full sun.
