It is not a matter of opinion whether a tree is suitable or not. Some trees are suitable, some are not, some are suitable for large size bonsai, some for small size.Ruth wrote: Auk, it is a matter of opinion if an umbrella tree can be developed as bonsai.
However, it is certainly not a matter of opinion whether something is a bonsai or not. You cannot simply put a plant in a pot and call it bonsai.
This does not look like a bonsai to me.
We are not discussing whether this can become a bonsai.

In very general terms, I have found in the bonsai world people get very intense on what is, what is not, what could be, what could not be - bonsai.
I've watched so many Walter Pall videos and I love his perspective. He did things in the bonsai world that people said were improper , wouldn't work, criticized him, said he was not following tradition. He did his own thing and didn't get hung up on all the guidelines that seem to be pushed as rules sometimes. Years ago the huge sumo trunks were in, now not so much. 名媛直播 is art. Why not an umbrella or a jade beautifully grown into bonsai form.
I so respect all the folks on this forum with decades of experience. I read every post and listen to the advice. I don't want to see someone discouraged in growing what may just be a "houseplant" hopefully on the way to bonsai. In the site bonsai4me.com there is a section on umbrellas trees.
I love kristof's work because he has fun with bonsai. Imagination and an inspiration fuel his work. He has fun!

We were not discussing if Schefflera is suitable. The plant in question is not a bonsai.

I do hope you do see the difference between you, buying bonsai material, doing research, trying to learn and someone buying a plant?

Ep1977 when this happens to mine I get real careful with the watering. I also remove any leaves that are crowding a branch. It seems to work. Mine is way overgrown. I'm going to do an air laying and cut some of the long crazy branches off.
Thank you for the advice. And to Auk I've never been to a 名媛直播 show where a few umbrella trees weren't displayed.
Hm.. but the plant show is not a bonsai, and is just a houseplant!?
