Hello, first bonsai was created by Vickycar9

Hello everyone! I always liked bonsai and now I have my first one. I have absolutely no idea what i have to do and that why I am asking for advice. I ve read some articles and I would like some opinions and suggestions. Should I add something to the soil-pot? May I get rid of the black plastic thing? The plant is watered and some of the wood got wet, the soil is wet, when it dries its not that dark. The second day i got it home plenty of leaves got brown, and then they died, i trimmed some branches. After almost 10 days it looks better. Thank you very much. This plant is a ficus microcarpa.

Hi Vicky,
The plant was most probably overwatered. It would be wise to plant it to a slightly larger pot with drainage holes. Don't prune any roots just transfer it and add some soil as it will be missing in the larger pot. Then water occasionally when the soil gets almost completely dry (you need to check every day with fingers). Hope you are keeping it outside or at least near a window where it gets sunlight. Dont mess with it - dont take it in and out of the pot or prune branches any more this year as it is stressing it. Now its time for the plant to rest as it needs to accumulate energy for the winter/spring. Doing so it should survive and in time you will learn how to take care of it even better.

Thanks! if i remove the plastic pot, then the beige ceramic one is a bit larger, can i put it directly there? it has a drainage hole, i have to put something like pebbles or stones under the soil?

I would suggest using a bigger one - the roots are now very compressed, so give them some room to grow. You can add the clay "bubbles" on the bottom and potting soil around. This should be OK for this plant.

It's what's know to bonsai enthusiasts as a 'Mallsai'
No, it's not technically a bonsai. It is, however a gateway to real bonsai. I suggest you do more research before buying another tree.

Tecnihally bonsai means tree in a pot, but this is not what we consider a bonsai. Its as BL wrote.
Learning to take care of this one will help you with the next one.

It is just a common or garden house plant and not bonsai. It has to be kept in as it is not hardy. If there is no drainage in the pot that will be a killer, and probably the cause of the damage caused.
