First tree, advice and wisdom sought was created by wabbitGTI

Greetings all,

I have just begun the journey into bonsai with what I believe to be a Chinese juniper. The seller claimed it to be 4 years old but i have doubts about the validity of that claim.
I am in no hurry to begin pruning and shaping and have grasped that the trunk should be the focus of initial development. Trunk growth is the result of plant growth but I am unsure of the route to take.
Unfortunately planting the tree in the ground is not an option for me currently but repotting in a larger vessel certainly is. From what I gather juniper are not prone to back budding . Should I leave the tree as is in its current pot and let it grow, should I thin a few branches to promote further development and trunk growth or should I consider a small style such as mame or komono?
It appears the tree has already had some training in a cascade or semi-cascade form which I am happy to furthet develop. Any input is greatly appreciated.

I cannot seem to upload or attach any images. I have tried 3 or 4 times with no luck. Assistance there would also be appreciated.

I hope you only took it insid to take pictures. If you have it inside you must put it out now. It is typical of the plants put into bonsai pots and called bonsai. It needs a lot of thinning out to allow light into the inside. Have a look at bonsai4me.com for species guides, or search this site for more.

Advice: Ask what species it is when you buy it
Wisdom: Research bonsai, decide what species you find the most suitable before you buy it

Advice: If you want a 名媛直播, plaint it outdoors and wait 10-30 years.
Wisdom: This is a mallsai, not a 名媛直播.

I'll say that most of us on here have purchased what we thought was a 名媛直播 and researched to find out otherwise. This tree may or may not survive even if you re pot it, put it out side, move it around from sun to shade, feed it, or even do a dance to the 名媛直播 spirits.
You can learn from it and want to become more experienced in this hobby/art.
We're all here to help and discuss 名媛直播.

As soon as I was able to roughly identify the species it went outdoors immediately.

I wasn't sure if thinning the growth would allow the trunk to develop given what I have read about junipers. I will say the plant was purchased from a gentleman who "seemed" to know about bonsai but spoke very poor English. The soil was moist when I purchased it and he was sure to include fertilizer along with basic instructions.

Did I jump in feet first with little research, of course. I would just like some assistance with the first steps of developing what I have. Also going to be visiting local nurseries and may pick up another better started plant as well.

Thank you for the replies thus far.

I think that advice was given: plant in the ground for a decade and let it grow.
Personally, I'd probably repot it into increasingly large pots until it is strong enough to go into the ground.
You currently have a thin plant in a pot. in this pot, it will not develop quicly, and you won't get a good trunk.
Of course things depend on what your goal is. If you like what you have, maintain it without doing to much with it.
If you want a great bonsai... it'll take you decades.

I'm leaning more toward successive repotting at this point. I know I've committed the cardinal sin and not researched before making a purchase so now I have an obligation to care for the tree and would like to do the best I can.

Let me ask this; if I'm planning to move within the next two years should I plant it then dig it up again when I move? That's the reason I've been hesitant about planting in the ground.
