Hello, Im looking to get my first tree in the next 2 weeks. Ive been doing alot of reading and research and decided on an outdoor tree. Im interested in the san jose juniper and I really like one that I found online over at hollow creek bonsai. Could someone tell me if this is a good tree and price?

Seems OK, but it is hard to tell that from just one picture. I cannot see it from different sides.
Also, I'm not sure if you will get this specific juniper.

However, you are new to bonsai. I would not buy this - unless when you know what your first objective is: keep it healthy and happy. Do not start wiring/pruning/potting/fertilizing/shaping it, as chances are you will ruin it, or even kill it. This is not a tree for beginners.

I don't like buying online it's best to go to to a bonsai shop where you can see how the tree looks but if that one speaks to you then get it

I contacted a local bonsai group that I am joining and I was told there are no local bonsai shops in the new orleans area. Online Ive read that junipers are recommended for begginers. I picked the san jose because it has a thicker trunk and looksmore tree like.

That would be good, they should be able to help you with this tree.

They are. However, this is not a young, cheap juniper. It's not a tree for beginners.
Using the wrong techniques, doing things at the wrong time, pruning it incorrectly etc.. etc.. may ruin or kill the tree.
Take it to that group, ask for advice, let them help you train it, don't try and do things on your own.

The photo from one side only doesn't tell me much, really, but at first glance it doesn't seem a bad choice.

Yeah I was definitely planning on having them guide me through the process. For now just water it and keep it alive til the next meeting which is november 14 if I can get it. Just waiting for paycheck to arrive.

Great! Would be nice to see the progress of the tree.

I'm quite a ways away from you but have you looked at a garden center or nursery? If you have acces to a group they can help you with the progress of a tree and probably save money on buying online. I picked up 2 San Jose's in 3 gallon pots, 2+ inch trunks, in a fall clearance for $5 each. I wish I would have joined a group before I butchered them...

Ive checked several garden centers, I will call some nurseries tomorrow. Got a response from the group on facebook they said the price is a bit high and recommended green mound juniper from brussel's bonsai. Thinking about taking advice and starting cheap on the tree but buy good quality tools.
