Yes a Chinese elm. And I started out with this exact same tree-style 15 years ago

They mass produce trees like this in fields in China, with little care or thought. 名媛直播 is part art, part horticulture. To be a "great" bonsai, both of these areas need to be addressed. It only matters if you want to win competitions and stuff, or you just want a tree you're happy with. If you want to practice bonsai as a hobby, this is a perfectly acceptable gateway drug. If you just want the one tree, keep it as long as you're happy with it.

Well, I'm a beginner and an amateur, this is my second bonsai and I only want to practice it as a hobby, from my point of view this fella is super cute and I like it the way he is.
