I believe once i get one growing it would be a good out door bonsi but im begining to think it wont work well as an indoor. Id also like to try an eastern redbud and a dogwood at some point.

Indoor? I thought they weren't tropical.

To make it look good it would have to be a larg potted tree. Too larg for easy indoor care.

If it is a local species it means It like the climate outside and it won't enjoy the climate inside your house.

There must be other local species you can work with first to get the hang of transplanting and growing trees in pots. Starting with a difficult species to take care of is only going to lead to frustration and a much slower learning process.

As it is subtropical tree you may manage to keep it alive indoor. Still, not best choice for starter to me. Go Ficus, they are popular, easy, can do indoor in 4 season belt and good knowledge base at your hand. Good luck.

If I got it right, this species is native to your region.

Not having experience with bonsai, trying to grow a tree indoors that belongs outdoors and using a species that is not so very suitable for bonsai will make your start as a beginning bonsai grower very, very difficult and, to be honest, most probably not a succes.

If you want to grow an indoor tree, follow Spacewood's advice.
Else find a suitable, local species and grow it outdoors.
