Legacy was created by EdwardDaggerhands

My grandfather passed away about thirteen years ago... He was an avid gardener. Today, while doing some work around the house, I happened to come across a bonsai he had been training. It was left in our backyard and neglected. I'm assuming it's been there for at least 10 years, with not a moment of attention given to it. I've attached an image. Is this beauty dead or can I bring it back to the state of health it deserves? Any advice would be great. Not sure what species it is, not sure where to start if I were to breathe life back into it, etc. Really hoping to do this little souvenir of his legacy justice. Thanks in advance!

I thought about skipping this one and not posting but I changed my mind. That is a Pine. As far as what kind we will probably never know. Without any needles they will not survive. I am sorry... :(
If you decide to follow in his footsteps keep the pot it is in. Us that to remember him by.

I think that even as big superhero as Jesus was wouldn?t be able to bring it back to life after so many years without any care.
Maybe if you put orange overcoat on it ...

Could you be a little more kind? All this person was asking for was help and you probably repeatedly killed their hopes and dreams and used me message like it was an ok thing.

In my opinion it was just a bit harsh

the joke may have been a bit much... but unless the little green spots on the side of one of the branches are new buds, the tree is dead... pines, and most other needle-leaf trees do not back-bud from wood. Getting over a dead tree is very important... I don't remember which one, but there is a professional bonsai artist (japanese) who said that he has killed man millions of dollars worth in trees. Generally speaking proper care will keep the tree alive. Which means accepting the responsibility for what happens to the tree, and it's life span is one of the first steps to keeping trees alive. Amassing the knowledge to care for a particular type of tree is another one of them. doing the right things at the right time..is also importat. and even after you master those things, you still may not have any trees worth showing. Which is completely ok... most of my trees are not that good... I do this because I enjoy it... but I do not presume to call the mallorcan oak seedling that I have in a plastic container, the hinoki cypress that is maybe 5 or 10 years old, or the ikea ficus ginseng that got me started in this whole thing a bonsai... I think I may have one tree that qualifies.. so hopes and dreams are important... but reality and the laws of nature and physics, as I have learned as a professional musician over the last 20+ years, do not make exceptions.

I think Kristof is always spot on with his jokes , he always lightens up a post , I mean this is a forum , we mostly talk about serious things but a joke now and then doesnt hurt .
Ps : it's a shame the tree is dead , it was pretty nice , could he maybe use the deadwood as a tanuki(driftwood) ?

In my opinion there have been too many bubbel whines on the forum, getting insulted when told their supermarket tree is not abomsay, their plant is dead etc.
You ask a question, you get an answer. Deal with it. :)
