Eeshk. This ain't the conversation I expected to see upon revisiting this thread haha.

MasterFarmer, I appreciate you looking out for a forum member's feelings, so thank you. That being said, I'm not offended in the slightest. I think my initial post came off a little more sentimental than I had intended. I would have loved to have been able to bring that tree back to the state it was likely in when my grandfather was alive; but I realize it was a bit farfetched, and I have no issue with facing the truth (even if it IS delivered harshly, which it wasn't in this case). Thank you to everyone for the insight.

If you do want to keep the shape and the look of the tree roughly you could try making a driftwood which is actually a style of bonsai where you attach a young tree to a piece of deadwood ( old trunk or entire tree that has died ) and that will then fill up the foliage where it used to be ( in you're case ) . But I have never tried it so I don't know if it's possible with your material , you could ask the others tho .

Feel sad for your dad and his tree. When was the last time you saw leaves on it and being alive?
