Ficus new beggining? was created by Madartej21

Ive got this ficus a few months ago and I don't like the ratio of it. The branches are thin comparing to the height of the tree. It is 75 cms from the top of the soil. What would you guys do?

Im thinking about air layering the very top of the tree as it is dense and has nice structure of branches which could make a nice shohin or mame in my opinion.

Id also cut the tree around the first branch. What do you think?

I would do that for sure.
But I would keep the aerial roots on the trunk and make new top from first branch on the left :)

Thanks. What makes me worried, that the tree also needs a repot as it has a very water retaining soil. Sometimes it goes for almost two weeks without watering. Im sure I should not repot and trunk chop and air layer in spring at once. What do you think?

I'm not sure, but I think that you can re-pot tropical species at any time of the year.
If you want to wait 'til spring, you can re-pot and air layer at the same time, then chop the trunk after the new roots have grown at the air layer site.

It?s a ficus :)
I would repot right away, wash away all the soil and trim the roots.
Then in spring I would do air layering, and when enough of root appear, cut the airlayer off.
And no worries :)
