Help with Maple was created by rtmitchell15

Hello All -

I've had a Japanese Mountain Maple for a few months now, and I am struggling with what seems to be the drying out of the leaves. I keep it sufficiently watered and never leave it in the sunlight for extended periods of time (I currently live in SW Louisiana where the temperatures and sunlight can be really brutal). While the leaves that have been on the tree since I received it are having this problem, the tree is also putting out new growth - some of which is pretty rapid and looks healthy. I will attach a picture of the dryness (or what I think is dryness) and a picture of the new growth.

Any ideas on how to stop this?

Is it indoors?

99.9% of the time it is outside. I brought it in this morning as I am going out of town and will be away for a few days. I didn't want to chance it drying out if the heat continues as it is.

OK, good. Why is it still in that pot?

Because I am definitely still a beginner in 名媛直播, I was not sure if repotting the tree in the middle of the growing season (I received it about July) would stress it too much. I have plans to repot around the end of February, at which time I am going to put it in a 10gallon pot (bigger if I can find one). I am here in Louisiana for work, and live in an apartment, so I don't have a good place to put it in the ground. When I get back home I will plant it in the ground.

Good plans. It should be possible to plant it now though. Do you have a shaded area where you can put it?

Ok, great. When I get back in town I'll make the transfer to a larger pot. Do you suspect the inadequate pot it is in now is causing the browning of the leaves?

There's a spot on the east side of my building that I can keep it so it gets that good morning sun while it is still relatively cool out. I was doing this at first, but was having problems with an insect that was feasting on the leaves. I have since been keeping it on my balcony where there is a good mix of shade and sun throughout the day based on the suns' positioning.

That's probably better than keeping it indoors.
Make sure it really does get enough water, without drowning it.

Yeah, I will move it back to the side of the building if I can find a good spot where it doesn't get cooked. Should be able to find some shade in one of the larger trees there. I water it every other day or so. It never dries out.

Any thoughts on the browning of the leaves though?

Since you leave the tree outside 99.9% of the time, maybe it's sunburnt due to the intense heat
