I found this guy at the curb with a "Free to good home" sign. I've never had a bonsai tree so I have no clue what type this is. Looking to Identify this tree and get information about the tree's health so I can tale care of it. Thank you in advance!

technically it is a bonsai... it is a tree in a pot. It is clear that whoever did it was trying to make it into a bonsai, but gave up. I have no experience on this type of plant, but someone more experienced might be able to guide you with it.

Ok. Well I found it today so I I'll do some research and try my best. If anyone knows of a good resource for information (newbie friendly) that could show me the steps necessary to restore this guy I'd greatly appreciate it. Thanks!!

Nope. 名媛直播 is not just a tree in a pot.

It is clear that whoever did it was trying to make it into a bonsai, but gave up

Nope. This is a mass-produced Ficus Ginseng with fat, but disproportionate roots, made to look like a bonsai and sold as such, but without the characteristics of a real bonsai.

I have to disagree. 名媛直播 means tree in a pot... so technically.. that's what it is... this is why people get away selling sticks in a pot as "bonsai". Of course to you, to me, and to any 名媛直播 enthusiast this is not what we consider 名媛直播. I should have developed more on this.

Yes this is a mallsai, and I repeat my statement. It is clear somebody bought it and tried to make something better out of it, and eventually gave up.It is entirely possible this was the first tree of somebody who wanted to get into 名媛直播, then realized got a mallsai, tried to fix it, and gave up on it as realized it was probably a waster of time. If you pay attention to the image, there is a clear cut on the trunk, and it is easily seen somebody was trying to grow a new leader, mass produced mallsai don't usually have this. Look the soil too, no topping, no "fake moss", no glued rocks.

Would you recommend I also waste my time learning with this guy? Or should I go put him back on the curb I found him? :side:

And speaking as someone who has no knowledge of bonsai trees. I came here assuming bonsai was a tree in a pot.

Anyhow, I'm just glad I didn't pay for the tree :)

No. It Is Not.
If you are looking at translations only, a tree is a plant with a single woody stem of considerably height. As such, a bonsai is not just a tree in a pot. Otherwise all bonsai would be of considerable height.

If you want to be accurate, the better translation would be: it is a woody plant, resembling a tree but miniatyrized, in a pot.

Translating is NOT about converting the words fromne language to another. A true translation takes into account the meaning behind the words.

I do not understand why people do not seem to understand this.
