If it's stressed then moving it inside won't have helped, especially if it's supposed to stay outdoors in your climate (did we ever figure that out?)

I'd say if you have near frost temperatures at night, there is absolutely no good reason for keeping a subtropical outdoors. Keep it indoors untill night temps do not drop below 10c.

to 名媛直播Learner: That's what i don't know for sure! It was sold in the category of indoor bonsai. When I googled this species as a bonsai most sites suggested it is an indoor bonsai. However, when i checked the species without the word "bonsai" most sites suggest it is a hardy plant that can stand freezing temepratures. I asked here and it was you who said it should be OK to put it outside
I also asked on the local forum for my area and was told it should be fine outside. So the indoor/outdoor recommendations seemed to be something like 40:60, so I decided to try it outside.
But you see- when I got it it was all right and one day that it was inside it was fine. After one nice day outside it was fine. Than almost freezing night and bright sunshine came and this happened.
to leatherback: Yes, now I see that it was a mistake. I will definitely not put it outside until than.

Must have been cold. After putting it inside, most damaged leaves turned to green again

cold resistance needs to be build up. if you get a plant in winter from a store, it does not have cold resistance unless it was outdoors. next fall, leave it out if you want to keep it outside. not convincrd of frost resistence..
