Zantoxylum piperitum- Chinese pepper outside? was created by Bonsajka

Here I go again :) So yesterday I got another bonsai, Chinese pepper. Is this plant suitable for placing outside (on the windowsill of a window)?
I've read that most species enjoy being outside, at least in the summer. It also increases their vitality and immunity. I live in a moderate climate, temperatures in spring, summer and autumn range between 5C at spring night to 35C on the hottest summer days.
The window where I want to place the Chinese pepper is on South-West side (at least I think so) with direct sun exposure in the afternoon.
I am not sure if that would be a good idea. I've read in one place that it is an indoor subtropical plant, but another source claims it is quite hardy and can be placed outside.
What's your opinion? I like the idea of giving my trees a good natural outside environment but I don't want to harm this one if it is subtropical and can't tolerate temperatures only slightly above freezing. Also I'm not sure about direct sun in the summer which can be quite strong. On the care sheet I got with it, it says place in the direct sun or half-shadow.

One quick thing, Zantoxylum piperitum is Japanese pepper but Chinese pepper is Zantoxylum simulans.
Both can stand around hardiness zone 6, so you should be okay (I think).
The area you've chosen sound good, too, as they both like dappled shade.

I suggest you just go for it, look up care guidelines, look up photos of both species and see if you can tell which one you have (or post a few photos here and I'm sure some of us will have a crack at it)

Worst case scenario, you never buy either pepper again.

I put it outside and it seems that it survived the first day :)
This is very funny because this tree's name on the website was Chinese pepper Caragona spinosa and the name on the care sheet is Chinese pepper- Zantoxylum piperitum

Based on the shape and positioning of the leaves, I would say it's Chinese pepper.

Look up "Zanthoxylum piperitum" and you'll get Japanese pepper.
Look up "Zanthoxylum piperitum bonsai" and you'll find Bonsajka's plant... that's very different from a Japanese pepper.
Look up "Chinese Pepper" and you'll find spices, which by association leads to finding chili peppers, but that's another hobb: bon-chi :)

I have never managed to find out what is the correct name for this Chinese pepper, but look for "Zanthoxylum Piperitum bonsai" as they are apparently known by that name.

By the way, where did you get it? Seems it is in good soil and it's not the typical S-style plant :)

So... I think the correct name is: Zanthoxylum beecheyanum

At least now I know what's the correct name :-)
I got it from bonsaicentrumkosice.sk which is in Slovakia, that's where I live.
I don't like S-shaped bonsai either. Maybe if they are slightly curved it's OK, but extreme curves seem very unnatural and cheap to me.
I also got my podocarpus and boxwood from that place and so far I am satisfied. Only with boxwood I had that typical beginner problem with yellow leaves (I know you guys love that question! :-D) . Hopefully it seems that it is recovering now.
This year I will not shape them in any way. I want to learn to keep them alive and learn from the Internet and books before I get more adventurous.

Oh, no, this happened in 12 hours. my camera doesn't catch the color properly. The damaged leaves are in reality more yellowish-light brown, not light green like they look in the photo.
I don't know, is that sunburn or frost? We only had 1 degree above 0 in the morning. Than the temperature rose to 20 and bright sunshine in the afternoon.
Now I feel horrible for hurting it :/

No idea why. you'll have to work it out yourself based on how you water, how often, etc.

I only got it 3 days ago. It came with damp soil and I watered it today for the first time. I guess it was too cold at night and perhaps stress from delivery. I've put it inside and we'll see what happens.
