Yes I can speak for myself. It is a tree that can be styled and grown and in time will make a reasonable tree. It is something to start with to get used to the characteristics of the species and the techniques of pruning and wiring etc without spending a lot of money and possibly damaging a valuable tree.

Mallsai typically are way overprized - so a lot of money has already been spent (relatively speaking).
It has no trunk, tapering, nebari or branch structure. There's no point wiring it or thinning it out in this stage.
This young plant, in its current state, will never become a 'reasonable tree'.

Making this into reasonable material would require planting it in full ground and letting it grow for some 10 years.
You could get better developed starting material for a lower price at a nursery.

You could get better material but you have already wasted time and money on this thing so you might as well give it a go and try the basics of watering feeding and a bit of styling. Mallsai are mass produced plants with no art put into them but that does not mean they arent good strter material for trying the basics and seeing whether you can care for a tree. The one charecteristic of bonsai you have got is the pot  . But whos to say you cant keep this one and get another better material. One things for sure, repot next spring.

Dont leave though auk, you have helped many and can help more.
