Looks like needle juniper to.me. Please, do not be too sure of my advise as i am not totally sure, wait for further comments on the species. The thing i am sue is that your "bonsai" is malsai (sorry to break it to you). Malsai mixes the word mall and bonsai. These malsai are plant that arent style well in petty much any way. But all they ae made for is to make money and to trick people into buying "bonsai". Its not your fault for getting tricked. But you still can grow it and style it further in the future. But let it grow. Wait for further comments. ;)

It is a Juniper, yes, but which one is not clear. One thing is for sure, you cannot keep inside. It is quite a nice starter and with some work will be a reasonable bonsai, but you need to learn how to look after it first. Check every day and water when it is just dry. Water well and leave until almost dry again. It needs sunshine, full sun is fine. and depending on what country you are in will depend on how it is treated during the autumn and winter.

Thanks. I'm in Australia, it's spring here at the moment. I was planning on placing it in my sun room which gets direct sunlight from sunrise to sunset. Do you know if that would be sufficient to keep it healthy ?

It is a nice starter. You need to put the tree outside if you can, it will not survive long if you don't. It might make a cascade or semi cascade if it is turned about 45 degrees to the left when re potted. Then the foliage needs thinning out to make the pads. Get yourself a book and read up about the genus and how to maintain it.

It really is not. It is just a young juniper in a pot. All essential characteristics of a bonsai tree are missing, and it is going to take years of growth and design from scratch to try and turn this into a bonsai.

I swear that is why meay5geoff called it a starter tree. It may take a time into making it into bonsai but is sure good material for practicing cultivation methods like watering feeding and pruning.
