Posted 10 years 3 months ago #13100This one is actually not that bad as mallsai. But it will take a lot of work to make into something that does not look like nr thirteen in the dozen.
Do not get discoraged though. In the end you have to like the plant, not someone else. Just keep in mind: When people on bonsai fora speak of bonsai, they refer to something else.

of course it's tough, it's an elm. How do you know it's Chinese, looks just like these elms (Siberian elm, Ulmus pumila) that grow all over around here. Chinese Elms, Ulmus parvifolia seed in the fall, my little weeds seed in the spring. Just wondering, how else I can tell.

I can see why you say this. The thing is that this "bonsai" has been mass produced by the look of it and the main species that is mass produced that looks similar to the picture is chinese elm. Also the way that that the leaves are connected to the branches/twigs looks like a chinese elm. The branch structure also looks like that of the chinese elm.
I am not saying you ae wrong, i mean who knows? It is just in my opinion that the chnce of it being a chinese elm is about 90% maybe higher.
