I watered it too much
deprived it of sun.
It was also near a draft
I also think that it has an infestation.
I let the tree dry out as instructed.
I was watering it too much anyway
I let it dry completely
there was also another kind of bug
all the branches are crispy
The twigs are dried out

I cried pretty hard. Almost as if the thing was as important to me as my cat.

I'll [...] wash the roots in warm slightly soapy water

Well, that's upsetting. At least I was told before I went and spent money to try and revive it, but I didn't let the roots dry out. I only let the soil dry (as much as I was comfortable with) and checked it by inserting a thin chopstick into the soil (kept it there for a few minutes) to see if it came out moist. I was told that was how to kill the worms that were in there.

I think my tree died mostly because of root rot, though. That, and the fact that it had no sun at all. Just the artificial light of the room. It was just weird how it happened so fast... two to three days and it was done. Had so many leaves I didn't know what to do with them all, then suddenly nothing. Thank you for your input even if it is sad news. At least I have piece of mind. I'm sorry I was the cause of the poor thing's death. I guess I underestimated the care that these trees need.

I'm not sure how to take that, but no I wasn't. None of the books I have said anything about trees being near drafts and the drying out thing was mentioned by a few different forums on different sites. Besides, I didn't let the soil dry until I discovered it was sick and one of the forums said it could be in shock and to just leave it alone.

I know I should not feed the Trolls, but here's where you are going beyond the point where people will still believe you are being serious.

Why do you think I'm trolling? I even provided pictures of my poor dead tree. If you want, I can try and find some of the links to the forums that told me to do it.

It's quite obvious. A bit over the top though.

Man, just chill out. This is a forum for bonsai lovers, enthusiasts and even artists. You just have to understand that is quite difficult to believe that so many disgraces can fall upon a tree in such a small period of time... It is almost as if you were trying to kill the tree on purpose (I?m not saying you did, though). It is just hard to understand, that?s all.

Now, I do really feel sorry for your tree... It is always a shame to lose a tree and I know it by own experience since I?ve already lost a Cryptomeria once.

Regards...

Yes, because I'd set up an entire registration on a site about plants JUST to troll. I already feel ashamed enough as it is, and you're doing a good job at making me feel stupid, too. As if everything I did should be common knowledge to any human no matter the supposed professional advice that was given. This was advice from people who knew more than I did, so who was I to question? I didn't even know what root rot was before this. I killed a tree with my stupidity and naivete. Yes, it is quite obvious now, thank you.

I didn't think I'd be judged so fast on a site for people who enjoy a relaxing hobby like gardening. I already feel guilty enough as it is, so I felt the need to defend myself. I mean, I really tried to take care of it. I looked at it every day and watered it when I thought it needed to be watered. Outwardly it didn't look like anything was wrong at all. But I guess I was wrong. I was told ficus were hard to kill, and here I killed one even with taking care of it and never forgetting about it. I guess I really do have a knack for killing plants. I'm honestly afraid to get anymore trees. I'm still not entirely sure what made my tree stop ticking so to say, or when it started to decline. It really seemed like it was alive and doing well one day, then dead three days later.

Yes, they are hard to kill, but your tree endured just too much in too little time. And no, you don?t have to be afraid of buying new plants, you just need to learn more and inform yourself before doing it... And eventually, even before you fully realize, your trees will begin to thrive... Just don?t quit because you?ve done something awfully bad. You?ll see... sometimes learning is an iterative and painful process, but at the end, with bonsais, it will be a rewarding one.
