There should be a law against misleading people.. This sort of materials CAN ben used to create bosia, al beit very small ones. The package is true to the pictures, but the remark that you can expect a more mature tree, puts you on the wrong foor.
I prefer to go to nurseries myself. As you canb use any landscaping plant, just normal nurseries are fine. Better are tree nurseries, ask fpor their rejects..

I agree leatherback it should be a law against it but as always there's people who fall for things and expect more and I guess i'am one of them well I will not do that again..
but I did have a friend bring me this Gyokuryu Cryptomeria Cedar and I took everything off it looked bad before I started now it looks worse according to my wife.
if it lives I think it will make a good one for me to work on..

Many evergreens cannot be cut back to old wood. Branches with no foliage on them will die.
I'm not sure about Cryptomeria though. Have you looked it up before you started pruning?
I found conflicting advice:
"cryptomeria can tolerate pruning into old wood and can regenerate growth when this occurs"
but also:
"the usual conifer rules apply such as not cutting into bare wood without foliage"
Looking at the photo though I think it will not have the resources to bud back, so essentially you've killed it.
Time will tell if I'm right.
