i am taking lessons for bonsai but not for wiring. :D that's something i need to practice at home. ^^ and why should i wire a chopstick, that sounds lame because wiring a stick is not hard but when u have bendable branches and sidebranches then i becomes hard. i know i made some beginnermistakes but that is just experience also i have different kinds of wire so i try to use the right ones for the different branches.

thx for the raffia tip. ill see what i can do for it. im not going to use moss because im not sure if its good to keep it moist like that. well see...

also u say that it is not the right time for pruning. but the tree is inside and still growing (slowly). then why shouldnt i prune it? ficus is subtropical plant so i doesnt have wintersleep, this must mean u need to care for the tree all year long. not?

@ cleaner626: it is true that u don't see much quality ficus shohin. is this because it grows fast? maby i should reconsider a different (bigger) styling.
when i styled the tree i was doubting that this was a good stlyle (triangle shape) for ficus, but it looked good so i left it. :D

thx for replys

Hi Jeroen,
Practicing wiring on chopstick my seem a bit lame, but it actually has a number of advantages over practicing at real branches.
The first one obviously, it enables you to practice your skills over and over again without having to worry that you accidentally damage your tree.
Second: It enables you to focus on the actual wiring technique itself without having to worry about other branches. Trust me, wiring this one chopstick properly may actually be harder than you think.
Third: It enables you to inspect your final product better than you could when it was attached to the real tree. When you look at it from the top, you should not be able to see gaps between the wire and the chopstick. When you look at it from the sides, all loops should be evenly spaced at a 45? angle. The wire should be tight enough so that when you hold it vertically, the wire should not fall off. But it should not be too tight either. You should be able to get the wire off by gently pulling from one end. Obviously, you cannot test this when the branch is attached to the tree.

I'm not saying you should spend a whole day wiring chopsticks. Just a few times, trying a few different thicknesses until you are happy with the result. After this you can decide whether you feel confident enough to try it on one of your bonsai, or you could also practice on some dead branches you found in your garden.
This may sound very lame indeed, but you will certainly benefit fromit alot.

Now about the pruning. I did not say that this is not the right time of year to prune your bonsai. I just said that from looking at your bonsai i don't think that it needs a pruning. The tree looks pretty healthy, but it does have rather long internodes. This may be why you think it needs pruning, but this problem will not be solved by pruning. Try putting it in a area where it receives more sunlight instead. The tree should respond by creating new buds with shorter internodes. You will also get more figurous growth and branches that are less likely to snap.
