In this case spider mites is just part of the symptom, not a cause of it. Evergeen temperate trees brought indoors in winter often gets spider mites. It is just a better environment for the mites than the tree. And a suffering tree makes up a great bufe for the mites.

Australia is big. But I am sure there will be more than enough light for cedrus in winter anywhere. Temperatutes may be another issue. They really need cold winters, which is not the case in most of Australia.

I was thinking about winter temperatures and dormancy, but yes, the heat in summer may be an issue. However not the reason for the tree dieing.
