I use that sometimes for cuttings to keep humidity in, and (fun fact) some people also does that for papaya and mango small trees during winter to avoid frost around here, so I don't know, makes some sense to me

I second that. In this case it may do more good for the peace of mind for the owner than for the health of the tree.

Hi!

Are you pretty confident/happy about your watering regime for this tree?

I have had a non-bonsai -now-turning-into-a-bonsai weeping fig (WF) for two years. As I know, you don't want to over-water these weeping figs. Definitely don't water daily, wait until a certain depth of soil is dry, etc. Not sure whether the WF's bonsai-status changes this. Maybe it will need more watering than before, but still not too much. For example, maybe waiting until soil is dry to touch before watering it.

Also, I am curious how the gradual transition to outdoors will go (or was it that you said you would try a greenhouse situation?), since WF are sensitive to being moved. Like moving it 1-2 feet or just rotating it slightly can cause leaves to fall.

Some species-specific (though not bonsai specific) things I can share about this plant :)

Putting it in a plastic bag will help it get going again.

Hey,

I was careful with my watering and misting and used a moisture probe as well as looking at the surface of the soil to see when to water. When it started to drop leaves i was worried and sort help, i was advised that they do drop leaves, like you say, when they are moved. I was moving the tree round my house to give it more light during the day. This was probs not a great idea and may have contributed and things seemed to escalate when i was advised to check the roots for rot, so un potted and checked it. This would have stressed it further and didnt help. I was also using Tap water and this may not of helped

As for the transition outside. I am not sure. I put the tree in a plastic tub with a clear plastic box over the top to make a small green house, i kept the tree outside in this for around a week and then took the lid off once i was sure temps outside were above 5C all day.

The tree looks dead and i have pruned back a lot of the dead branches in the hope to save 2 that still have some spring in them, now i am just waiting and monitoring it in the hope somewhere inside it is still alive.

Fingers crossed to your tree dude, hope it buds, there's not much you can do at this point.

As the days get warmer you can remove the plastic cover.
