ok so please be kind....
Ive been "doing bonsai" for about a year and basically everything I do is crap.
I follow the youtube beginners guides - identify front of tree, remove branches that go down or up and forwards. Remove crotch shoots, go for lateral "pads" remove shoots close to branches.
So why do all my "bonsais" look terrible???
All Ive managed to do over the last year is throw away about ?100 on plants and then systematically set about destroying them.
these 4 lamentable subjects are all I have left and having taken a fresh look at them today I dont think any are salvagable. Im devastated because Ive invested so much time and have nothing to show for it. Can any of these be saved and if so how?
my biggest sadness is the firethorn. It was about 20 years old and once had a beautiful shape until I just went rogue and basically killed it.

Getting started it hard, so do not be too hard on yourself.
For Juniper, one of the main things many of these movies miss is.. do NOT remove inner growth until you are certain you do not need it. Removing the inner growth will leave you with empty insides.
Second thing often missing is the value of letting things grow. I trim most trees 2 or 3 times a year. MOST of the year, they look scruffy. Building up, growing wood, roots and foliage. So they bounce back when I work them.
My recommendation would be to just let these grow for a bit. Let them get growing healthy.
Then make individual threads for your trees, and lets take a look where you could take them.
As long as your plants are healthy, creative minds can come up with interesting trees.
Last thing people seem to forget.. 名媛直播 take time. A year is NOTHING.

I can't find a firethorn in the old post, but i see a japonica.
I actually really liked the trunk movements on the japonica.
Both the left and the right side. I think i would have changed the angle a bit, and shorting the branches over time, do some wirering, to create a triangler shape. And then just leave it like that, as a nice garden plant. No need to do fancy things but just keep it in shape, and enjoy the view. What to do now with the Japonica, i have no idea. Do you have a full picture of it with the deathwood as well?
Perhaps you can also start working with the white bag method, instead of cutting the branche away, you hide it in a bag, so you see only the foillage that is left over. And if you like that view, then cut it. But if you think, o no thats to much, you just remove the bag, and leave the branch in place.
I try to use free material as possible to practise. As as a starter too, i have losses of tree's too. But getting beter at it.
Free materials from seedlings, cuttings, dug up garden plants, from the dump, or other tree like srubs you come acros in the wild. Makes the hobby a bit more fun, as it won't cost that much from losing bought tree's.
For the junipers, let them recover and grow strong for a year.
And not to forget, don't cut away the green inner follage, but always with this species from the outside towards the inside.
As it won't backbud, so you want to keep as much foillage close the the trunk as possible. This is for future use. Otherwise the branches are starting to look leggy.

time...
www.bonsaiempire.com/forum/general/14803...-turtle-and-the-hare
Check my long running threads on the site, e.g.,
www.bonsaiempire.com/forum/progressions/9904-shokkan-yew
www.bonsaiempire.com/forum/general/7097-juniperus
It is normally NOT a fast process. Yes, a first styling can go quick and make a big difference. Buut.. Normally, it just takes time, and skills which need to be learned.

I think I will put these in a pot and forget about them for a year or 2 and focus on some more subjects - taking it slower this time around
