If you see frost comming to your area it is best to protect the tree as it is in a kind of seasonal confusion state and might not be prepared to deal with it. Next winter after a full growing season a few frost nights is not an issue. But I guess frost is not very common in Portugal right?

Yes, I kept it outside when it's sunny. The next few days will be rainy with the lowest temperature being 7?C. Frost is actually common here, believe it or not. Thank you for your help!

I kept my olive inside during the winter a couple of years and it seemed to do fine. Then I kept it outside all winter and it did fine. I don't remember temperatures last year but I know a couple of nights ago it was 19F/-7C and typically we have a few days like that.

I think it varies by species, but mine seems to be thriving.

They can take quite a bit of frost as long as they are hardened off and temp goes above freezing in the day. If the temp dont go abowe freezing for a few days the tree will die. So it is not only temperature, the duration plays a role as well.

In my location I cannot keep olives outside. And inside the air gets to dry when central heating is on 24/7 for a month or more. 5 degrees owerwintering room with additional light works good. Too much work and cost for me so I sold my tree after 5 years.

Ah ok, then it should be fine since it barely gets below 0?C and when it does, it's just for a couple of hours during the night. Thank you so much!
