Yes, it takes a lot of experience and horticulture expertise to do it properly.

Note.. Often these plants come in substrate that is sub-optimal for health. I find that if you have a green thumb, repotting in good substrate is often a good move to keep your plant healthy. But replacing substrate brings its own set of challenges and risks. Double-edged sword, really

Good to know. I think I will just let them grow a bit more to develop more roots. And l will read much more before I really start to repot them.Thanks!

Ficus ginseng from IKEA is not a mallsai, it is an ordinary house plant.

But, yes. That one Will be hard to make into bonsai, very hard.

I have another question: if the two trees need to stay outdoors, what does seller do to keep them alive? Do they also keep them outside before selling them?

responsible sellers keep their trees outside. See the red areas at bonsai dusseldorf, where I come frequently. That is their for sale area.

responsible sellers keep their trees outside. See the red areas at bonsai dusseldorf, where I come frequently. That is their for sale area.
