Need some help with my first tree! was created by mjaago

Hello!

I need some help identifying my tree. It seems to be some kind of a ficus (microcarpa maybe?).

In addition I have several more questions:
1) Is the green cover on the trunk moss? If yes should I do the vinegar+toothbrush combo?
2) Big part of the trunk is just sawed off (visible on the pictures as well) and it doesn't look healthy. Should it be treated somehow to make it look better for the eye as well?
3) I have no info about the soil. It seems to be drying out pretty slowly. Watered the plant 2 days ago and it's still a bit wet and springy. Should I repot to a different soil? When is it best to repot?
4) When would be a good time for pruning?

Any kind of tips on how to take care of the specific species is warmly welcomed.

I'm planning on growing it indoors for the winter. I live in Estonia so we have quite cold winters (usually somewhere between -5C to 5C). Holding it right next to the window so it gets as much sunlight as possible.

Thanks a lot for the help in advance!

When you buy a tree, it is important to know what you buy in advance. so you know what care it needs, and if you can provide that care.

What did the vendor of this tree say the species of the tree is and what care it requires?

Thanks for the answer!

The vendor said that they're not experts and additional information should be found online. I'll have to look for more capable vendors next time. Sadly I can't provide any additional information.

This is a privet, ligustrum. It needs to be kept outside.

The cutmark is not easy to correct.. You will need to get a lot of growth on the tree to make that less conspiculous. For now, I would not worry about it, and focus on getting it through the winter alive.

THe green is algea, from the very humid environment it was kept in before.

Repotting is done in early spring, as the plant starts growing.

Thanks for the help!

I can't keep it outside because I live in an apartment building. What are my best chances to get this plant through the winter? I could put it outside from time to time when I'm home. Should I put it outside even if it's below 0C?

About the repotting, should it be done? Reading about Ligustrums it seems that they don't have very high requirements for the soil. Then again I have no info about the soil and would like to have better control over it.

Your best chanse is the coldest brightest place in your appartement. If you have a room to spare which can be kept unheated it is even better.

Thanks for all the guidance once again!

Would it be better if I would put the plant outside when possible (during evening hours)? This would cause big temperature changes and I don't know if that's good for the plant or not.

taking it from outside to inside and back again will certainly kill it... leaving it inside will kill it too...

I'll try to keep it indoors as long as possible. I'm afraid to put it outside because it might just get stolen. In addition the nights go below 0C which probably isn't good for the plant either. There's also some construction going on near my terrace so the dust might be bad for it as well.

What signs do I have too look out for that show if my plant is not adjusting to the room temperature well? I'll put it outside when necessary.
