I have just bought a bonsai beginner kit off amazon. When reading the instructions it says to soak the seeds for 24-36 hours. plant them in the growing pot. leave them in a well lit dry environment for 10 days then transfer into a fridge for 4-6 weeks. was just wondering if this is right and any tips to give my little tress the best fighting chance would be greatly appreciated.
Background - I live in a flat, I am aware that the ideally should be kept outside buy unfortunately that is not an option. any help would be greatly appreciated . FYI I have a mountain pine, Japanese cedar, red maple and Italian cypress seeds

Then all bets are off. These plants belong outdoors and will NOT survive indoors. Creating bonsai from 'm is out of the question as you will need strong, vigorous trees and you will only get that if you keep them in their natural environment - outdoors.
This is repeated on this forum over and over.

Try a tablespoon per litre and a sprinkle of paprika to bring out the colour of the leaves.

I imagine there is a way to mimic the outdoors for the tree I.E water, temperature and light? I have no issues with altering the temperature of the flat colder or warmer to give them the best chance. the main part of the question was the instructions saying the the planted seed should be kept in the fridge for 6 weeks? do you have any knowledge of this? Thank you
Sure. If you can mimic the climate - including the humidity, temperature (including the freezing temperatures in winter), fresh air, light intensity, length of light periods, then... maybe. But you can't. So, it won't work.
The instructions should be correct, but you need to do it in the right season, so I would recommend to mimic the end of autumn in your flat right now and then change to winter.

Of course. That's why in nature, seedlings always walk to a warm spot to avoid getting cold. Often they buy sweaters and warm hats too.
Maybe you are referring to house plants / (sub)tropicals. You cannot grow outdoor trees indoors.

But science apart... singing Duran Duran songs to them makes a massive difference.

BansaiPro88 wrote: but you CAN mimic the outdoor environment! The plant isn't going to know if its a desk fan or real wind. and pressurised H20 dispensers monitor the humidity. and having a heater on an automatic thermostat to control the heat lets the trees thrive. All this with the summer/winter spectrum bulbs on a rotating timer create a natural, fully controlled environment with day/night cycles.
Ah... didn't recognize a troll. Apologies for that. I'll stop the feeding.
