Using a solid bottom pot for bonsai was created by LivinFreerider

Hi

I just got my first bonsai in spring this year. It is a Ficus Retusa I bought all done from a local plant shop. It was potted in a plastic pot with holes, and it had(still has) regular plant soil.
I wanted a solid pot I got made for this plant, so I simply swapped pots. Well, it all went fine and the growing literally took off this summer, as it was overly hot and sunny, especially for being Norway. When the heat and pressure finally took a dive in august, the growth stopped in an instant, and bit by bit it has started dropping a lot of leaves. I recently went back to the plastic pot to allow all of the soil to dry out more evenly, but still no big changes.

So, my plan now is purchasing the right components for soil, and also swap to solid fertilizer, as I've been using standard liquid plant fertilizer so far.

My question is this though: If my plant will be repotted with the right soil and fertilizer, does the pot still have to have holes at the bottom, for air to evenly dry out the soil?

Yes it does. The holes are necessary for oxygen to reach the roots and the excess of water can get away. Without the holes root rot will be a problem.

Yeap, Fonz is right.
You definitely will need a pot with big bonsai holes and...
I wouldn't repot a ficus being late fall in Denmark, I would winter it (it will certainly die if temperature goes below +10C), and then repot in the spring.

It's an indoor plant, so temperature is above +20C all the time.

However, I know the time of year is not ideal, but my gut feeling tell me that waiting 6 more months will do more harm than good(See images).

The other thing is I have no windows facing south, so the east placement where it is now, is the best I got. Will this plant be salvageable back to somewhere near its starting point(last image, from the shop)

I will at least stop using the solid bottom pot from now on.

This is just a normal houseplant, and has absolutly nothing to do with growing bonsai. As such, there is absolutely no need to swap soil.

This plant will do well in normal potting soil. Look for other causes of the dimise. Is it getting enough light? Is the soil not completely calcinated? Do you have spider mites or thrips living on it?

I will never trust a snake, and people forcing pride onto others with no explanation, have a lot to hide. Would you believe me if I told you that black is yellow, and green is white?

Anyhow, I have no want nor need for answers from you, but others are free to care, as this is a forum after all.

word of advice, i would listen to leatherback cause he knows what he is talking about. he is right, it is not a bonsai. your tree can be losing leaves because its indoors, not getting enough sun, or some type of insect infestation. after all trees are meant to be outside.
when a tree is not doing well you never repot, all you did was add more stress to the tree. so repotting twice in a single season definitely was not helpful and would be even worse if you try to repot again. also stop fertilizing your tree. first trap people always fall into is my tree is doing bad let me repot it and keep adding fertilizer to help it out but all that does is kill it.
i would suggest leaving it alone, place it somewhere where it gets sun and fresh air and cross your fingers.

You should really see someone about that. Some built up frustration there.
Unbelievable.

Oh, and pease. Drop the name calling. You do not want to listen to me, fine. Your loss. But let's keep it civil, shall we?

Don't trust me.
And...
After this demonstration of unjust anger, I won't answer this thread anymore.
By the way, your plant is not a bonsai and it should be outside.
