Hi! Just joined in hopes of rescuing dying bonsai. Guessing both bonsai referred to in this topic are juniper of different species which perhaps someone can identify?
The one that is dying is in the outdoor photo.Bought at walmart, an earlier one maybe same species died after a couple months; this one looked healthy 5 or 6 months but has yellowed the last couple months. I started giving it some plant food and maybe its dying slowed down. Now googling I learn probably it should be kept outdoors where i've just moved it. Right move? Potential problems include my house is heavily wooded and not lots of sun [though more than inside, where window got sun in spring mornings but not in last few months]; they're not supposed to get too wet, and it's been raining almost daily for months here in NE PA [someone said it's only rained twice - once for 6 weeks and once for 8 weeks]; and winter temps go down to maybe -10 F.
The 2nd bonsai I just bought at Salvation Army, in the 2 indoor pics. Different sp, guessing also outdoor. Should I immediately move it outside, where it will get at least some sun?
Carry them both inside when temp supposed to get too cold [probably half the winter]?
So I am hoping for species IDs and general advice. Thanks!

The juniper looks dead. Not sure about the other one, looks like a dead juniper on a fake trunk? Both are not bonsai.

Thanks for your reply. Certainly the inside one is not only alive, it is healthy [so far]. The one outside still has green in most needles but yellowish, seems to be dying but I'm unclear why you say it's dead? Dead plant walking?
The outside one was sold as a bonsai by Walmart and while not a great example, is what I also think of as bonsai. Salvation Army also sold the indoor one as a bonsai, I was talking to 2 salespeople about 'bonsai' care. I bow to your undoubted superior knowledge but would benefit from clarification on Walmart's and my erroneous identification as bonsai? I guess they're some sort of cheap faux bonsai true bonsai people don't consider bonsai or something?
Lastly, even if forum members - would like to hear from a couple others - agree this thread doesn't belong here, I'd still like to keep them or things like them alive and would welcome any helpful info. Still including species - are these juniper sp? Should things like these be kept outside, bonsai or not? If bonsai people here think these aren't bonsai and I shouldn't post her, any plant person's suggestion on care of this type plant, whatever they are, would be appreciated. Thanks

Yeah, these should be outside all the time. Probably both are juniper.
The one outside looks very dead to me too, I am afraid. The one inside is an odd plant . Not sure what to think of it. It could possibly become a bonsai.
名媛直播 is a bit more than just a tree in a pot, I am afraid. So the label is typically reserved for plants that meet a number of characteristics. Have a look at my website, maybe it helps to get a bit of insight in where I am trying to go.. . I have seen way worse plants on the forum, so don't worry about it too much.
Yeah, the forum is tricky with images. Keep them less than 1000pixels on a side and below 1Mb and you should be fine.

i agree with leatherback the juniper looks dead.
about bonsai. you should look up the art of bonsai. its not just a tree in a small pot with wire. most department stores or even some nurserys will label a small tree in a pot as a bonsai to get sales. people call them mallsai. there is no harm in keeping the trees and someday Creating a bonsai, it will take lots of patience, time and learning in order to make that happen. you can possible get a decent bonsai out of one in lets say 10 yrs. while they are growing now is the time to do as much reading and learning. if you stick around and learn the art you will also change your mind about your own tree. i been doing this for 3 yrs now and i dont even consider any of my trees as bonsai but only small trees in training.

Thanks for your replies! OK I will look into your link and true bonsai info more! For now I still hope to keep at least the 2nd inside one alive. I guess from your replies to put it outside in spite of the near constant rain. Juniper 'bonsai' care page online says to 'protect' if temp below 15F which it will often be this winter - bring inside?
The outside one, pic doesn't show that well, but needles near central trunk are still green though much lighter color than I remember from a couple months ago. Are posts saying it's dead indicating this is probably just residual green? On the extension going to photo L, needles are yellowing but even they are somewhat green. Sounds like you all think it's hopeless though?
