Hi there,

Sorry to hear your olive died. Guess we are in the same pack. I am really worried I am not going to get one of my ficusses to root. The raft-style is having a very hard time. So.. Let's just forget about that fact, keep the experience , and move on?

Your Junipirus is hard to identify just from a picture. Justr go with general 'Juniperus'. They are very drought resistent, get more damage from over-watering than from drying out a little. Important: THey do not easily back-bud. IN other words: if you cut a branch off you run the risk of it not creating new leaves. Unless you leave a growing point (actually; a section with healthy leaves or a growing point) on the branch, you might kill off the branch. You will have to be carefull but deligent in pruning the tree.

Personally, I think the stems of the tree are a little light. I would prefer to get them thicker. But that would take a lot of time. You could decide to style it (I am not sure when juniperus grow in your region; Might well be that in fall is good for you as summers are so hot down where you are) if climate is OK. I would style this tree a little before doing anything to the roots. Maybe style it in a two-stemmed tree, sort of like a catapult? Using one of the side-branches on the right to grow a leaf-layer at half the height of the tree?
Have you checked what happens in the pot? Does it have nice roots? Is the stem thicker there?

Yeah my olives died too.. I personally think a good thing to do when starting bonsai is to buy a tree that is really nice, not too nice as those are expensive and will be a waste if you kill it due to not knowing enough about how to maintain the trees.

I got given a chinese elm from my cousin and killed it within a year.. They say the best bonsai enthusiasts kill more trees than they grow successfully, i really do not know how great that saying is.

I think you should get a nice book that explains everything about bonsai and read it so that you will know about the basics such as when and how much to water, when to fertilize etc. Then get a nice little tree to practise on, although as i have just seen, you bought stock too! So go for it on that tree. One of the most important things are to keep your mind stimulated otherwise you might find yourself getting bored or drifting off. To be honest 名媛直播 is not the easiest hobby! Go for "nursery crawls" I.e just go looking for stock trees and other already finished trees etc, this will keep your love for the art going

Cuttings are abit hard to start off with, especially olive. These are not easy trees to get growing. I have a olive i dug out from the wild and it still hasnt started budding although my cousin's tree has.. Patience is another thing you slowly start to learn from this art.

Hope this wack information has helped!

My mother has just brought me a little tree with roots from a nature and I planted it in a pot :)
I think it's fir or maybe a pine (it's small so I can't be so sure)
Here is a picture...

Thank you guys for all these informations. My Juniperus is still young so the stems are a little lite, is there some faster way to become thicker or the patience is the answer?
I have just planted it in a nicer pot. It has good root system, not very thick but ok. I will let it for a week to adjust :)

If you want to get the tree to thicken up you must plant it in the ground. That is the rule when thickening bonsai quickly. When a tree is in a pot its growth will be restricted and the tree will take much longer to thicken up. Plant that tree in the ground for about a year or two and it will be thick

Yes, if you really want to thicken the tree, is to put it in the open ground. It has here more space to absorb water and other things it needs and here it has all the space to produce lots of roots that can take more energy etc. If you think the thickness is okay, you can take it out, prune the roots and put it in a bonsai pot.

Good luck :)

I made a huge pause here on forum, I couldn't plant my tree in the ground because it would die if I did :) the winter was terrible here (luckily tree has stayed at home) and now the summer is hot as hell, it would't have any water. I suppose I'll have to wait longer for branches to get thicker.
I also took one little branch to try to make another bonsai from it. I bought that liquid for roots to grow and planted it in a small pot, we'll se what happens next :)

I havent pruned my tree yet, I will have to wait autmn :)
