That's actually a really good point. The fact that it is alive gives the tree character. Part of the art is that it is living which is missing in artificial bonsai.

Thank you very much for elaborating. I think I understand now. I really appreciate your feedback. I have a couple of questions for you though. What is the difference between bonsai and mallsai? Like I don't see the difference when I google it. You also said I don't understand what a real bonsai looks like. could you describe to me what a real bonsai looks like? Like at what point does a shrub turn into a bonsai? Like is the shape of it something that doesn't naturally occur or something? Sorry if t sounds like I'm interrogating you I just want to know more about bonsai.

AHH I think I'm getting it now. so its like that caring for the bonsai is more important that the actual bonsai tree itself. Its like when you see it you don't see just hte plant but you see the work that you put in it. Is it something like that? What what if you like the way it looks but they all die or something like that? Yea I want to care for a bonsai tree and stuff like that but Every time I tried they all died, and I could never get the shape and stuff I wanted.

Personally, I would never ever buy a plastic plant. Keeping it healthy is just part of the hobby. If you do not like caring for plants, bonsai is the wrong hobby,

You guys are using a word that I don't know the definition of, mallsai. Correct me if I'm wrong, but bonsai means potted tree. when I looked up mallsail I found some that looked like this Which I think looks pretty good for a thing in a pot. But you keep saying it is a mallsai. I'm sorry if I seem like I'm asking a stupid question, but I really don't know what yo uguys are saying . What what is teh definition of a mallsai, is what I'm asking I guess. Like is a mallsai just a bad bonsai tree, in your example you showed 2 trees, but one of them was clearly not as good as the other. so is a mallsai just a bad looking tree? I don't know if I cleared up the water, or just muddied it up a bit more. Like do mine look as bad as the 2nd tree you posted? Maybe I'm just a terriable person asking all these questions and I don't even know it. can I just want to know what the definition of a mallsai is. Again I'm sorry if I am asking a stupid question but I just want to know more.

I'm not going to discuss again what bonsai is, and that it is more than just a potted tree.
What you found is a bonsai, not a mallsai.
The definition of mallsai is really not hard to find. It is a cheap, mass-produced young tree, often formed in a typical, standard S-shape, that has little or no artistic value. The word Mallsai is a combination of 'Mall' and 'Sai'. A Mall is a shopping center - they sometimes sell house plants, including these trees, but have no knowledge of, and do not sell, real bonsai. Unfortunately, as they are so widely spread, these trees are the incorrect image many people (that are not into bonsai) have, when thinking of bonsai.

Your first piece looks like a mallsai. As bonsai is an artform, trying to create an impression of a tree in nature, your piece therefore is an imitation of an imitation of an impression of a tree.

The second one is better. If you want to make better artworks though, study your subject and learn what a real bonsai looks like.
