Let's say it is the only sure way to make the roots grow attached to the rock?
When you see ROR bonsai with the rock and roots exposed it is because they were buried for many seasons *before* being shown.
I'm my opinion seeing ready to show bonsai with no research beforehand will make one think things happened magically when the truth is a LOT of work and patience and horticultural knowledge to be able to show anything.

Just like Auk said, there are a difference between root-over-rock and rock planting. I am sure burying root over rock is The best way to go. But my comment was about rock planting. i havent seen any rock planting buryid, which offcorce does not mean that People does not do it. Just that it might not be necessary in all cases.
