I have just experimented with a few trees on rocks. i have used aluminium wire. How to do it has been adjusted to the tree and The rock. What fits, keep the tree in place and looks good works. At least for me.

I am as curious as you about what the more experienced have to chime in.

I read and watched where they tie it on the rock with string and the other with glueing the rock to the pot and gluing the wire to the rock. And one where they put the roots over the rock and bury it in soil for lkke a year or more lol, but i dont want to wait that long.

Not sure what you are aiming for. If it is about setting a tree on a rock and getting the tree to grab the rock for a root over rock styling.. you bare root the tree and guide young roots along rhe root surface amd with a foil say clingfilm, you press the roots agains the roch. I have also used radfia. Then you just allow the tree to grow out for a few years. I typically check annually that there still are miltiple roots feeding the tree.

If you want to plant multiple trees on a rock you would first of all find a rock with grooves and hollews ro put the roots. I. The root spaces you can drill small holes. Rhen using pieces of fishing lead: fold a piece of wire and place the folded end into the drilled hole. Place a piece of fishing lead, the aize of the hole, over the wire and hammer it in with a small driver.

Glue can work but is liable to crack in winter over time

One thing you need to learn with bonsai is to be patient. Bury it in the soil is proboably the best recipe for success. While not burying it might work, there is a bigger risk to it.

Magnus, if the style the OP is aiming for is "root over rock", it has to be buried to work and it takes a few years.
After some months expose part of the roots already attached to the rock, and so on.
I am using raphia.

I think we agree on that one. While it might work not burying it, I think that burying it is The best way to success.

You did not understand there's a difference between root-over-rock style and a rock planting.

Yes, I understand the difference. But since the OP talks about burying, I assume that it was about root over rock. I havent seen any rock planting buryid. Is there really any reason for burying rock planting? Except for maybe winter protection?
