hi and thank you to everyone that responded to my original message,
i have some questions regarding the fert. of my golden gate ficus.
- i'm using a fish seaweed fert. 2-3-1 content once a week,i'm guessing i should apply a cup of this fert. directly to
the soil, let it soak for a few then do the overhead watering ?
- also, the micro total states spray the foliage every 3-4 weeks, do i let that dry, or wait a few then do an overhead watering ?
are there better fertilizers i should be using? or are the above ferts. ok.
i appreciate the information.

I apply slow release organic fertilizer pellets right before growing season starts. My fertilizer pellets are small and they need to be applied monthly. Once intense grow season kicks in I use Alaska fish fertilizer (also organic) once every week to compliment. I do this to all my trees and they are very very healthy, and grow amazingly well. To apply the fish fertilizer I mix it with water on a small watering can, and then I water the tree with the fertilized water, that's how you do it.

If you notice what I do, I fertilize quite often, even more than the instructions in the bottle. Here's why. All my trees are potted on a soil that is about 90-95% pumice, this provides very very good drainage where danger of over-watering is minimal to none, but gotta watch for under-watering. Since the soil mixture is so inorganic, the fertilizer washes out fast, so the trick here is to use a small concentration of fertilizer and fertilize often. This I have found is the best way to fertilize trees with liquid fertilizer.

thank you very much for the info, i watered the base with fish\seaweed today, i let it soak for a few and did
a total top rain watering of my ggf, then waited an hour and soaked it again... so, at this point im doing it once
a week...depending on my moisture meter...am i doing ok ...i have a lot of new growth since doing the fert. i
did last week.
should i let grow....it's seems to be a 20 + yr. old tree, should i trim it, or let grow.. and, what trimming and when...

my soil seems like dirt and small rocks, that's what bonsai outlet
used to pot it...
