Calcium and Magnesium for seedlings? was created by Photosynthesis

I have a 10-10-10 fertilizer for my tree seedlings. It does not list anything else but NPK in the ingredients. So, I was wondering if I should get a calcium and magnesium fertilizer? I found one on Amazon that said it has calcium and magnesium with micro nutrients: iron, zinc, boron, copper, manganese, molybdenum, and sulfur.

Depending on what you mean by seedlings they do not require fertiliser especially this late in the year. Just germinated seedlings are too small to use fertiliser.

They are around 2 months old. I thought I was supposed to cut back fertilizing after they have gone dormant.?

2 months old in the beginning of october! That means they germinated in August!
That late germination is quite a challenge. It means they have not had a full summer to grow strong enough to handle a winter.
But yes, Geoff is right. We do not fertilize tree seedlings first year. We are uppotting when roots gets crowded instead.
Depending on growth rate I do not fertilize some in the second year. And I do not fertilize from August and onwards, but that may vary with location. I do not give magnesium or calcium to any of my trees as far as I know. Never seen any signs of deficiency, so I have never bothered about it. I have 3 GH hardness in my tap water. That is concidered soft water in general, but I know the pro bonsai artists would consider it hard and want even softer. I have never heard anyone of them mention they add calcium or magnesium despite using soft water.
I know Nigel Saunders use rain water exlusevely. Ask him if he gives his trees calcium and magnesium. If he do not need it, nobody would.

I guess this is the only website I should get my information from. On one of the websites they said fertilizing is crucial for the development of young trees. They said fertilize as soon as the first true leaves have grown. I am glad I don't have to worry about fertilizing till next year or later.
I was worried I wasn't giving them enough fertilizer because some of the leaves on one of the seedlings turned yellow and fell off. I know that can be a sign of over or under watering too, but I am pretty sure I am doing it right. I only water when it feels mostly dry one inch under the soil. When they go dormant and lose their leaves, what color do the leaves turn? Do they just fall off, or do they turn yellow or brown?

I do not know any tree that shed green leafs. That would be a waste of energy. Normally they absorb all nutrition from the leafs, during that process the leafs can turn yellow, orange or red. It differs from species to species. Some show all colors in different stages. Even some can show all colors at the same time on different leafs.
Walking in an temperate decidious forest in authum is wonderful. If one catch the right time and a sunny day it is like a firework of colors.

Some trees here go into summer dormanr periods and drop their leaves. If this happens it us after several weeks in August of high temps and no rain.?
After a decent rain more leaves come out. This year we had enough rain that none of them had a dormant period. Last year tge dogwoods all loojed lije they died but then came back.

Actually some species that come from seasonally dry rainforests or winter rain karoo go dormant every year in summer. They have excactly the same yearly cycle of natural dormancy as temperate trees but it happens in summer. When temperate trees drop their leafs in summer due to heat it is not a natural dormancy, it is a stress reaction.
