My watering system when I am away is called Anna. I use personal comunication and positive feedback to program her. It does not work perfectly, but she is getting better every time. She starts to understand the concept of rainy vs sunny days. But there are still some concepts like species, substrate type?and substrate volume where I need to fine tune the code.

If Anna is away with me I have a backupsystem called Sophie. That system is quite reliable, but do not understand the variables fully. I guess she will never get as reliable as Anna.? Anna just have more emotional bonds to the trees via the emotional bonds she have to me.

I would never, ever leave my trees to be cared by a machine. They do not understand the consepts and I do not know how to measure the variables reliable nor how to program it to adjust the output acordingly. I stick with the non perfect but much easier to program biological beeings.

That is my main goal. To be home and do self watering. Beeing my own self watering system :)

But I do have a manager that wants me to travel. She do not have much understanding of my trees needs :)

Well, I am going to Japan in February so the trees will be fine. Rest of the year no more than two days away.

But to be serious, a friend of mine had a system that he used all the time, his tree were never good, usually too wet and they did not flourish as they should. He could not be bothered to water by hand, so his trees suffered. The only ones that looked in good health were two that were not connected to the system, they looked great, other friends only used the system when they were away for a short time. One had a neibour water for him and paid the price, he lost half of his trees.

I do not know anyone using automated watering system. I have had success involving a neighbour. But I was so nervous that I returened home 2 days earlier.

I have a friend using a solar powered system for tomatoes. It is quite smart as more sun means more water. Not that I would be less nervous than when Anna or Sophie watering. But if I did not have any friends at all, I would concider that option.

He was lucky.

I had an automatic system. My helpful neighbor saw that we left the water on when we left on vacation and thoughtfully turned it off.

I lost them all.
