If the local climate is noticeably hotter than where it was grown the tree may be going into summer dormancy. Put it in partial shade, water it when it dries out, and wait until spring.?garrybr wrote: Hi,

If you are serious about growing bonsai, get a locally hardy species and grow it outdoors. That will make you feel the enjoyment of creating miniature trees all experienced bonsai people feel instead of that frustration beginners with indoor trees feels.
But be aware, as soon as you have discovered the enjoyment of bonsai, you will want more trees. Everytime you visit a garden center or a fellow bonsai artist you end up with a new tree. You start to dig stuff up in your suroundings. Starts growing cuttings and seadlings. Build one bonsai bench, build one more and one more. Visiting clubs and shows, obviously getting new trees from them. Build one more bench, just one more. This is how adictive it is doing bonsai the right way.
I know you may think, this is not me. But rest asure, I have met many in the hobby and noone has made it sticking to just one or a handful trees.

In extreme cases, you will wind up buying the back yard next door, then another.?
