I am new to art of bonsai and I've got a problem with birds. When i apply natural firtilizer to my trees i attracts birds and they dig through the earth in the pots. The only solution I have come up with, is to cower up the top of my pots with a metal net. Ufortunatley i don't like how clumsy it looks . If you have to deal with the same problem as me, you will know how annoying it is. I added a picture of one my trees with my "solution" against the birds.

I have nets covering the substrate on part of my pots.
I bought green plastic mesh. Cut to the size of the pot, circle for the trunk.
especially in fall and spring I have issues. Most of summer / winter the pots are bare. When I get the first digging I add.

Had the same issue with birds. Im my case they were after little worms under sphagnum, moss or around the organic fertilizer pellets (Biogold). They were lifting the moss and making a mess.
In the end I took off the moss and the sphagnum from the pots and they gave up digging.

Some years ago, I saw a genius construction at a restaurant outdoor terrace. They had spanned fishing lines crisscross at half meter intervals(?) above the customer seating area, and there were lots of birds circling around, but none of them dared to fly through the fishing lines...
