I am so sorry to hear about your loss!
But it happens in this crazy weather.

Pay attention with severely damaged Maples leaves; I have a Momiji (palmatum) that after a scorch in the summer never came back from an eternal dormancy...

Moss here, in the summer sun, dries up (an dies) in a matter of hours.
Very difficult to keep moss around.

I could imagine.. Sorry for it.. :/ I think for this JM it’ll be less dangerous on the Swiss climate. It’s really just the tip of some new growth which affected on this few days heatwave.

Rather than start another thread I thought I’d post here as it’s related to the topic.

My Chinese Elm doesn’t look particularly happy. I thought now that the hot weather has mostly passed, it would begin to recover. I’m definitely not overwatering, and wait for at least the top third to dry out before doing so. It hadn’t been fertilised for around three weeks. Last night I gave half the usual dose of balanced feed after watering. I can’t work out what is happening with it.

At what point should I [strike]panic[/strike] start to worry about it?

Branch maze!
Franky, I think your tree is desperately crying for a little pruning.

Definitely don't panic right now.
Elms can stop growth in the intense heat, some yellow and falling leaves are normal, and Felidae nailed it; it needs air and some sun inside.
So, wait a little, when those shoots are sprouting, cut them down to the second pair of leaves.
And... Keep us posted!

A lot of those tiny branches have buds that appear like they may do something at some point, I was reluctant to trim them too far. I’ve had it for a round a year, and generally I just trim back after 3 to 4 new leaf pairs have grown.

I’ll definitely keep you guys posted. Thanks.

Don't panic, but do worry. It is not happy. Iwould water more, but I am not sure which substrate you have this in though...

Check also for bugs on the plant. Spider mites, aphids, thrips. I am not convinced it is the heat. My tree just saw 2 weeks of 30+ celcius and could not be happier. I did water twice a day, and the tree is growing in near non-organic, very open substrate.

I have a mix of Akadama and John Innes No3 soil (around 70-30 respectively).

No obvious signs of bugs or pests, although I’ll keep checking for this daily.

The problem I have with diagnosing the cause of this chlorosis - if that’s indeed what this is - is that there are so many varying answers depending on which source material is used as reference. It seems like I’m on a ‘trial and error’ approach, which may not be best practice.

I just now notice it is sitting inside. That is now where you keep it, right? Normally it has a nice dappled sun spot in the garden?
