I have finally had to succumb to dunking my trees, or at least some of them. The weather is such at the moment and has been for weeks that I am having difficulty in keeping them well watered. I have been watering twice a day for weeks now, with only the odd day when I watered once. The main problem is it is going to take me all day to do them. Most have survived ok, with only one or two showing leaf damage, the White Beech which was quite badly damaged is now growing again. I will (almost) be glad when it cools down and rains.

I've had to move a couple of my plants (mainly the small ones in small pots) to 'sick bay' - an area that is close to the hedge and gets more shade.
The azaleas are now in trays with water.

My mallsai-elm was a problem - the soil dried out easily, would shrink, and water would run off it through the sides of the block of soil. I've had to dunk it a couple of times too. I repotted it, it's no longer a problem, but I learned why it is hard to keep these things alive for people buying one of these for the first time.

The rest is doing fine. This mainly concerns the bigger ones in big pots (though there are a few smaller ones too that still are doing just fine). I water once a day, loads of water.

Never expected to say this as a Dutch guy, but I'm longing for a period of rain. Normally in our summers we get plenty of it.

we have been experiencing a bad heat wave here in California for the past 2 weeks with over 105*F heat. seems its going to last another week or so. i been watering 2 -3 times a day and all but one tree seem to be doing fine. all receive morning sun only and are in shade for the mid day heat. My JRM of course is the one struggling a little with some leaf burn to the whole back side. placed it in a shaded area trimmed the burnt leafs and started growing again so thats a good sign. im having trouble keeping my air layers moist so im hoping that doesn't effect them cuz the bags really heat up. but only time will tell.

We have had weeks where the temperature has been in the high 20s or 30s and no rain. My garden has little shade, so I can't do much about it apart from keeping the trees well watered. I started dunking the trees last night, did a few but it is hard work. I am going to do mainly the smaller ones, I did put one larger tree in the bowl, and had great difficulty getting it out!
The forecast is thunderstorms tomorrow, but back to more of the same next week. Roll on January 2021.
