Hi Gus,

Well, perhaps before you start prunning it would be nice to know in what country you are and which is the species you want to prune... Not all species tolerate prunning this time of the year the same way.

That said, if you want to put your hands on a good set of tools with a reasonable quality/price ratio you can go here:

I?ve already purchased those tools and even if they aren?t top quality japanese tools they serve my purposes just fine.

You don't have to buy a lot of tools right away, you can use various tools that you may already have. You can buy tools as you need them, and if you join a club then you will be able to borrow tools as you need them,

Perhaps a photograph of your juniper would be nice. Can?t say you should change or not your pot without seeing it.

As for your juniper, now it is the time to pinch the new shoots with your fingertips (if you do it with scissors chances are that the tips of the needles might turn brown). Also, a structural prunning I think is possible this time of the year.

I think a pair of tweezers would be useful, and maybe a pair of branch cutters would be suitable.

Good luck,

It's a tree from home depot. You're not going to need branch cutters, tweezers or a tool kit. Just a cheap twig cutter.
Never pinch it, cut the long extensions when necessary.

If it's a scale juniper... if it's a needle juniper, it's a bit different.
