I'm trying to figure out where to buy a good set of bonsai tools, I don't have any Do any of you have any suggestions?

often on the internet (ebay). quality sets being sold cheap. Im new to bonsai but have made a few tools.

Tweezer set ?1:00
Root hook bend broddle
old fork tongs bent for rake
chop stick to help with potting (Tight spots between roots).
wire brush from fine electric cable which is good (not shown)
tooth brush is usful for cleaning trunks (not shown)

I went a very inexpensive route on my tool kit.

I use a pair of model tweezers from my local hobby shop. $2.00

I use regular scissors and an old root hook I found in my garage for re potting.

Cheap chopsticks and/or bamboo skewers are great for working soil into the roots as well as checking soil moisture

And some plain old pliers for working with wire.


Prices are usually lower when you purchase it from a store as opposed to online.

Thank you for your responses, I had written this a few years ago and then I had to move and during the moving process all of my trees died. I'm getting back into the swing of things now and will be buying some tools, and I appreciate the information.

If you can see the tools before you buy, so do not buy from E Bay. Most tools that are cheap are nasty too, and not worth the money. One of the other posts suggests where to get tools that are usable and not expensive. Then if you decide that you want better tools you can spend more on them selecting the ones you need as you go.

I found a gentleman who has been creating bonsai for about 40 years, and he sold me a set that he said is a good one so I will trust his judgement. Thank you for your help.

Start your search on Amazon and there are a lot if smaller nice sets one that comes to mind is from a company called Tiny roots they also have a web site tinyroots.com visit the site and take a look.
