I've had a small Money Tree (in a small pot, with a braided trunk) for years now - I never thought of it as bonsai material, until I read about different varieties here.
Would it be worth trying to turn a fairly unattractive house plant (the four branches with leaves on their tips are longer than the trunk) into a potentially decent bonsai? If so, how would I go about it ? Would cutting the branches short hurt/kill it?

I think it would be good to first understand what you have there. In general, no it is not interesting to try and do this. 名媛直播 is not a rescue mission..
Money tree could be schefllera, crassula, Pachira etc. What do you have?

First of all, thank you for replying to my questions, you sound like a real bonsai enthusiast !
I don't see it as a 'rescue mission' - rather as a way to improve on the natural design
Although I've had a bonsai (the ficus with spider mites
for a long time, I haven't really had a lot of time to devote to anything more than just the basic care of it ( life tends to take a lot of my time
Also, in the past, I was able to take my tree back to the store/nursery I had bought it from, for any special care needed (re-potting, training, pruning...) Sadly, the lovely people who used to own the place have disappeared , and I haven't been able to find anyone (locally ) who'd be willing to help, even with an advice
I am so glad to have found this group of people who seem to genuinely care - that's what has inspired me to actually try to learn more about bonsai care
So, going back to my last post, I'm attaching two pics to help id the Money Tree , and maybe get more specific advice.
Thank you in advance

This species is not so suitable for bonsai and this particular plant isn't usable.
