hello guys, im trying to turn a boxwood into a bonsai, its doing well after a heavy pruning a couple of months ago, iv noticed a lot of flower buds starting to form, should i be removing these to redirect the plants energy or just let the plant grow freely?

what country are you in? Are you sure they are flower buds?

im in the falkland islands in the south atlantic, ill add a picture, the other boxwoods in my garden are getting small purple flowers on them so i assume they are.

so are you in summer or winter? I would remove the flowers.

were in summer now, i wouldnt mind if it was 1 or 2 flowers but there seems to be loads! should i pinch them out or cut them off?

The flowers are quite small and won't take too much energy from the plant. I think I would not remove them.

As far as I know, most of the enery is spent creating the flower. The stage tha buds are in now, look fairly full grown. As such, I would leave them, and enjoy for a few days before taking them off so they do not set seed.

the plant you have a hebe and they do flower and get larger trunks eventually here in victoria bc canada i have seen some of them near 100 years old planted in front gardens of old heritage houses, ive seen them less then 3 feet high with 3-4 in diameter trunks. i often thought of asking to dig one up for bonsai. i had a purple variety but it never did thicken up.
